This week is the 2017/18 Under 18 State Championships, with a number of young Camberwell Magpies showing their wares around the premier grounds throughout the week. Today marks the end of the preliminary rounds before moving into the finals tomorrow.
Shubham Bhargave and Michael Parsons are batting in consecutive positions for South East Bayside Breakers; opener Parsons made his best score today with 48, while Bhargave notched up 88 against Inner South East Scorpions at number three on Tuesday. “Shubsy” also claimed 2/19 from seven overs to round out a great all round performance.
James Vlaeminck has been opening the batting for Northern Rivers, and following on from two starts (34 and 24), he accumulated 73 from 89 balls to round off a good start to the tournament.
We also have two boys from Mallee Murray playing, again top order batsmen. Josh Carmichael started off on fire, hitting 74 from 94 balls including three sixes on Monday, before being brought back down to earth with a duck the next day. He managed 20 today, while compatriot Paddy Keogh has had a rough start, with three scores under ten. Hopefully he can finish the tournament in style.
For the Inner East Emus, Eshaan Patel has been bowling his off-spin tightly, getting through nine overs for 28 over the first two games. While Jack Di Stefano, who has played a few games in our 2nd XI this year, hasn’t been able to get going to this stage, with three low scores batting down the order. Hopefully they can continue their winning ways with Tom Russ playing the role of co-coach.
Similarly, Henry Alexander made his 2nd XI debut in the last game before Christmas, but hasn’t been able to find any form in the carnival thus far. He’s got three scores under ten, but managed to take three wickets over the first two days.
Hopefully the boys can continue to represent the club well, and finish off the carnival in ripping form ready for the second half of the season!
