Quarter Finals: Seconds and Fourths clinically through to Semi’s

An exceptional bowling performance from the Second XI and fantastic all round cricket from the Fourths has given both sides home semi-finals next weekend.

The Second’s routed Fitzroy Doncaster for a miserable 48. Mark Dwyer and Lachie Mahon’s opening spell so clinical that the Lions were in complete ruin at 8-20 at one stage. Dwyer finished with the exceptional figures of 12.3 overs, six maidens 6-15, taking his season tally to 43, 38 of which have been in the Second XI where he leads the competition wicket list with an average of 15.58. Mahon also bowled superbly, taking 4-13 from his 10 overs.

In reply, it took Sam Parker’s men all of 14 overs to reach the total, Nick Richardson the only man out for 25 as the Magpies romped to a nine wicket win setting up a blockbuster semi with Melbourne at Camberwell Sports Ground next saturday.

The Fourth XI will play Ringwood at a venue to be announced after outplaying St Kilda over the weekend. Batting first, the Magpies made 8-255 declared thanks to some very impressive batting from Ben McIntosh (56), Sis Jayasinghe (42) and Kevin Prior (42). This left the Saints 55 overs to make 256, but they were never in the hunt, Liam Fernando claimed 5-22 in an outstanding bowling performance, St Kilda all out 194.
