FAREWELL COB
Last week Chris Thewlis announced his departure from the Nest!
“I want to thank the Camberwell Magpies Club for 17 fantastic years. I came down from the bush as a 15 year old, not knowing anyone, or anything, about cricket. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities, friendships and memories made at the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club. The list of people to thank is far too long, so I’ll sign off by saying I love this cricket club and all the people involved so much. I will always be the biggest supporter and get down to the ground every chance I get. Go Pies!”
A career spanning 17 years, 224 matches, 5908 runs including 9 hundreds, 27 fifties and a whopping top score of 237! But most impressive of all is his best bowling of 3/9! A total of 36 wickets proves you were more than handy with the ball and 64 catches along with 8 run outs shows you were as nimble as a pup!
Cob is genuinely one of the kindest and selfless people you will meet, to the point where it's kind of a bit silly and you think, this guy's crazy but that's just Cob! Always up for a beer, a chat, a hit or a bat refurb, Cob will be sorely missed around the Well on and off the field. As a mentor, as a friend, as designated ball shiner, as someone to bring us back down to Earth, as the cleanest ball striker I've ever seen, these just touch the surface of how Cob will be missed!
You have given so much of your life to this club and we are so grateful and lucky to call you a Pie for life!
Although one thing that will continue is Cobs support of The Swoop so, I am officially crowning him Jacks Q&A Corner's Number 1 Superfan (your like Spike Lee to the New York Knicks)!
All the best in everything you do next and on behalf of the club, thankyou and best wishes to Grace, little Charlie and all your family for their contributions over the past 17 years too!
Thankyou Chris, we look forward to seeing you around the Well in future!

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Chemist Warehouse Camberwell.
This week, I sat down with one of our up and coming quicks, a man who is allergic to keeping his shirt on at the gym and boy does he pump some iron......it's Simon Greene!
1. You're a man who loves a gym sesh, what's your go to pump up song to get you in the shredding mood?
Simon: I love many genres of music so this changes all the time. I do however always play ‘Die Young’ by Kesha and ‘Love at First sight’ by Kylie Minogue on a Friday night gym session to get the vibes going before a Saturday game.
Die Young is one of those TikTok songs that got memefied but was always a hit back in the day! Friday night gym sesh is very Marcus Stoinis of you which we love although, I'm surprised our neighbours at McQueen Park haven't made a noise complaint with how loud you pump your tunes!
2. You're also a big The Office US nuffy (like myself), do you have a favourite episode or moment from the series?
Simon: Generally any moment with Dwight schrute is my favourite. Probably season 5 episode “stress relief” where dwight does the fire drill, is my favourite episode.
Stress Relief is all time! I personally love Creeds little quotes from that episode. When they are performing CPR on the dummy and Creed says "he has no wallet, I checked"! The Office is honestly the perfect stress relief show to make you laugh, so good!
3. Being a big fast bowler who is very scary to face (some would say Steve Singh esk), do you enjoy terrorising every batsman in the nets?
Simon: I have heard these Steve Singh comparisons before so I presume he must also have been a great handsome and funny bloke as well. Truth be told I don’t enjoy terrorising anyone in the nets except Lyndo or anyone who doesn’t own a green helmet.
Singhy was Paul Amy's love child, you could put money on every article written about Camberwell in the Leader Local News for about 7 years that it would mention Singhy at some point. But he was an absolute nightmare in the CSG nets. Thankyou for not enjoying the pain you put us through but speaking of green helmets, funny that Patty Forrest suddenly got a green lid after making a ton last week......
4. Having got your license earlier this year and I assume still driving mum and dads car around, what car are you (or your parents) looking to buy? Simon: I actually was lucky enough to get a car from an old family relative who no longer drives. It’s a Mazda CX5 watch coincidentally is the same as lyndos.
When you say 'get a car' I'm going to assume that the transaction didn't negatively impact your bank account but boy that is a very nice get for you! Lyndo and Greeney zoom zoomin around in their Mazda's! I just hope you don't use the excuse "my car wouldn't turn off" when you are running late to a game like Lyndo!
5. If I come over for dinner what are cooking for me?
Simon: If it’s the night before a game I’d cook us (id get mum to cook) a big Spag bol to get the pre game carbs in.
I appreciate your honesty here Greeney and that you are carbo loading like Michael Scott pre fun run, although I think I would want you to cook for me, just so I can have that experience of watching you try! Although, you might have to go up against Jim's Spag Bol from last year, I was thinking Masterchef style on a Thursday night and you can both cook the club dinner to decide the winner! Take notes social committee, people would pay money to see that!
Thankyou to Simon for playing! Who will be on Q&A Corner next round? Stay tuned to find out!
