Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Hark Media. This week I sat down with our former king of apparel, school teacher by day but soon to be labourer in the UK, a man who has given over 10 years to this club, that's right, it's Hamish Burrill!
1. How does it feel to have an entire cricket vibe named after you (buzz in the field)?
Buzz: I like to think Jack, that it does stem from who I am or probably was a few years ago as a fielder, someone lively that creates energy, but somehow I just don’t think that’s the case, one can dream.
More energy, more passion as the meme says or perhaps it should just be more buzz! Yes it is nice to dream, perhaps if we all dream of a premiership we can channel the right manifestation energies and emotions and bring it to life!
2. Sticking to the nickname theme, is it true that HB pencils were named after you? And do you get a free lifetimes supply? Buzz: Yeah the family lead business can take account for that… they wanted to keep their products connected to family ties so it worked out well that hard black matched well with Hamish Burrill. I run the business now Jack, so all these interview questions you’re writing might allow you your own lifetimes supply.
For those who are confused, Buzz has a bachelor in sarcasm so he has played along with this joke very well. But if you could provide me a couple of cheeky HBs I wouldn't say no! Would save me a bit of cash in 15 yrs or so when the kids start school!
3. You have your own photography Instagram page, for the camera enthusiasts out there, what camera/lens do you use? And any upgrades coming?
Buzz: Currently, I use a Pentax P30 with a Jessop Skylight 58mm, and for point and shoots I use a Pentax Espio 115 which I picked up in my travels in Japan. You’d know all about the electrics craze in Japan Jack. Upgrades, I actually have one of my grandfathers old film cameras, an Olympus Trip 35 which I’m keen to start using soon!
I love that we've gone full camera nerd here! That's some pretty cool equipment, I've never shot on film but it's definitely the 'in' 'vintage' style at the moment. Finding old tech is fun too and you're right the Japanese have mastered the art of preservation! Me and my partner (Ariana) bought a Fujifilm XS-20 last year and it was awesome on our trip, looking forward to experimenting with different lenses too!
4. With you heading off for a year abroad, what are you most looking forward to and how on Earth do you expect the club to fill a buzz sized hole?
Buzz: Two things Jack I think, a day in Italy or Spain filled with a beach swim, a nice cocktail and some beautiful Mediterranean cuisine and then alternatively, hitting any links course in Scotland. Well Lyndo’s already doing a better job in my old apparel role so that’s a good start I reckon stiff.
Sounds beautiful Buzz! Very convenient basing yourself in the UK being able to go in and out of Europe easier than down under! And yes those Scottish courses look devine! Wonder if you could sneak a round on St Andrews?!
And thankyou Lyndo, you're right he has done a great job so far! But I meant the 1st grade quality all rounder shaped hole not the off field admin position.....c'mon buzz!
5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?
Buzz: Ahh the one I’ve been looking forward to the most. Jack, I'd cook you a nice slow roasted lamb shoulder with a side of scalloped potatoes, caramelised carrots and some crispy beans with feta and topped with a lovely maple glaze. And if you’re lucky, a chocolate self saucing pudding to finish it off.
Oh mama! You had me at 'nice' but finished me off at scalloped potatoes! You've used some excellent adjectives here to water the mouth, it's almost like you teach English! And a 'self saucing pudding', that sounds interesting! Does it come to life and pour sauce over itself? Cause that would be wizard! This might be up there with one of my finest Q&A dinners.....obviously Cob still reigns supreme!
Thankyou to Buzz for playing! Who will be next on Q&A Corner, find out in the Finals Week 1 newsletter!
