Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Sherlock Wheelbarrows. This week I sat down with a man good with his hands behind the stumps, a favourite on and off the field, that's right it's James Jarrett!
1. Where did the nickname 'chip' come from? JJ: Sorry to disappoint but there isn’t a real clear cut answer on where this nickname originated from. I guess it was one of those weird childhood nicknames that just evolved over time but it is something that I have never been able to shake, it just stuck really well. It’s to a point my own mother is calling me chip and if my mates call me “James” I assume they aren’t speaking to me. Quite strange when you think about it.
Very strange indeed but quite funny your mum calls you chip too! Chip also the 'great' James Frawleys nickname, ex Dee and Hawk. I also feel the same way when somebody calls me 'Jack' around the club.....
2. How much have you 'loved' playing a lot of your cricket with Foz and Greeney? JJ: Gee whiz playing with those two week in week out for the better part of 4 years is becoming some odd nightmare I can’t seem to shake. I’ve heard every foz school cricket ton he has claimed to make against some of the great “APS bowling attacks” (his words) and every greeny blow up that’s happened, so it’s all white noise to me nowadays. But in all seriousness it has been enjoyable to play with them and it’s nice to see us all on similar trajectory’s in a cricketing sense and hopefully we can continue to keep rising up the grades together.
Perhaps the new rat pack is emerging! Look out Bill and Kev! Any ex-APS cricketer tells tales of their finest days playing on the best grounds in the state! But I can't imagine how much money you've spent on Panadol with the headaches received from some the chirp out of their mouths.
3. You've got a fair bit of swagger and style about you, a little Bieber-esk some might say, do you have a fashion/style icon? JJ: Great compliment , my icon no doubt would have to be a late 90s / early 2000s David Beckham, bloke had some serious aura. But as we are on the topic of fashion I’ll drop in a nice tip, and that’s to stay clear of skinny jeans unlike some millennials at our club, we’re into 2025 now so no one needs to be seeing the outlines of your calves. Furthermore, don’t get me started if there’s rips in them too. Time to stop shopping at Levi’s fellas.
Some excellent advice to our out of touch fashion friends, get with the times people! It's baggy or it's nothing! Becks definitely had the world by storm back then and pretty cool that he's still having an impact on people today! You give me 2017 Bieber shaved head vibes which we love!
4. Being a keeper, it's important to have 'soft hands', do you use a particular moisturiser to maximize softness? JJ: Not a massive lotion expert, my key to keeping my hands soft is to stay clear of hard tasks while working. Some may call it soft i would call it smart. However maybe I should look into it as I’m known to have hard hands on occasions which has lead to me being dubbed “porcelain hands” by Kev Prior. Pretty flattening.
So what I'm hearing is that you're a big like Andy Bernard from The Office, never done a hard days work! Porcelain hands is pretty funny but not as bad as cymbals. There's definitely a few keepers out there with that nickname!
5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?
JJ: Having just completed my first year out of home I’ve learnt to cook a few dishes, living off air fried chicken tenders for the first few weeks stunted my cooking career slightly. I believe in keeping things simple after all we aren’t chefs, a nice steak that I’m sure to over cook and one of those woolies salad packs but sometimes the sauce has a funky smell. If I feel creative on the day I might even make a steak sanga.
We might need to set up a time for you to take a class in Cobs Kitchen where the spices are knockin and the plates are rockin with flavour! But these sound like some solid staples to build your skills around. A JJ steak sanga sounds delicious to me with perhaps a special 'chip' sauce!
Thankyou to JJ for playing! Who will be next on Q&A Corner, find out in next rounds newsletter!
