The Swoop Newsletter - Round 16 Edition 2024/25

Brought to you by

Hello Magpie Community,

Welcome back to season 2024/25 and Happy New Year! We hope you had a safe, fun and restful holiday season and we can't wait to get back on the park this Saturday against Melbourne Uni!

With only 5 rounds left, we are well and truly on the run home and with all four teams in the top eight, fingers crossed we will have more cricket to come in March!

Looking forward to seeing you around the club in the coming months!

Go Pies!

Jack

U16 DOWLING + U18 COMPETITIONS

Our U16 Dowling boys have been competing hard in week one of their carnival playing one 1 day game and 2 T20's! We currently sit 16th on the ladder, unable to snag a win from our first 3 games of play.

Top performers with the bat so far have been skipper Jakey Pietz and Aryan Verma and with the ball Benjamin Excell and Archish Awasthi.

The carnival continues on Monday with 3 more rounds to play!

The U18s have been playing on various Sundays in the lead up to Christmas in mixed formats too. They currently sit 10th on the ladder with 3 wins from 7 outings.

Our top performers so far have been Ed Winneke with the bat, Jobe Fraser with bat and ball and Oli Schofield and Daniel Pietz with the rock too!

The U18s have two more fixtures left with a game THIS SUNDAY AT CAMBERWELL SPORTS GROUND! It would be great to see as much support as possible for our young stars!

We wish both teams all the best as they close out their tournament matches!

TOM VANDERSLIK 150 CLUB GAMES

Congratulations to Tom Vanderslik who brings up game number 150 for the club this week!

Tom's CMCC career began way back in 2012/13 when he used to bowl seam up! But it was the change to bowling left arm orthodox that brought Tom to the high rank he receives today! Captain of the 3rd XI, Tom is Mr Reliable around the club, always taking on extra responsibilities to make sure things keep running on schedule!

Tom was also named the Victorian Premier 3rd XI Player of the Year in 2018/19, a fantastic achievement! Tom has accomplished so much in 150 games and we are so lucky to have him as a Pie!

Go well this weekend and thankyou for everything!

The ball is back and fast approaching so make sure you get your tickets via the link below!

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner anchored this week by our Co-Prez Gravo and brought to you by our great friends at Silvan & Sherlock Wheelbarrows. To bring in the New Year, we’re changing lanes and interviewing long standing CMCC sponsor, donator of club trolleys and father of past/current CMCC gloveman Ben, that's right it's Michael Tricarico!

1  For the CMCC community, can you tell us about your business and what a typical client looks like?

The business was started by my Father (Bens’s grandfather) about 64 years ago.  Still an Australian family-owned business.  We manufacturer spraying equipment used by home gardener’s all the way up to large commercial farming operations.  We also have a wheelbarrow business under the name Sherlock.  Our wheelbarrows and home garden sprayers can be found in Bunnings.

2 How did you get into your business?

I was born into the business.  All my school holidays when I was younger were spent working in the business.  I did everything from assembly to warehousing.  After some stints working outside the business, I returned to the business when my Father was approaching retirement.

3 What are in your opinion, the key features of a successful sponsor partnership?

I really don’t have any expectations regarding sponsorship.  Just happy to support local sporting clubs.

4 As I understand it, young Ben is somewhere in Europe. Can you give us an update on what he is doing, where he is, and when can we expect to see him in CMCC colours again?

Ben has been studying in Milan since August.  Now holidaying with some mates from Melbourne.  Returning home Australia Day weekend.  Last report he was in Austria with Lucas Harrison.   His immediate plans are the upcoming footy season with St Marys.  After that not too sure.

5 Finally, our resident social media guru Jack Di Stefano always asks each player what their go to cooking dish is for our newsletter. So , if the team decided to drop by the Tricarico household for a feed, and you had responsibility for the cooking,, what would be on the menu?

Obviously with my heritage, it would have to be something Italian.  For the team it would have to be lasagne.  Plenty of carbs.

A massive thankyou to Michael and his businesses, Silvan and Sherlock Wheelbarrows for their ongoing incredible support of the club!

Who will be on Q&A Corner next? Find out in next weeks newsletter!

Welcome to Tone's Trivia, brought to you this week by Chargrill Charlies!

A massive thankyou to our sponsors Physioworks Health Group & Chargrill Charlie's for their ongoing support of the segment!

A reminder that the following prizes are up for grabs:

First Prize: Physioworks Health Group Massage Voucher

Second Prize: Chargrill Charlie's Voucher

Last weeks answer - B) Daniel Rawson

That's right, it is Daniel 'Rowdy' Rawson who holds CMCC's highest batting average against Casey of 89.6. He loves it down at Casey Fields!

Round 16 Tone's Trivia - In 2023/24, Liam Fitzpatrick and Shorye Chopra set the highest 4th wicket partnership of 222 runs against Melbourne University. Who holds the highest batting partnership of all time for the Pies?
