2024/25 SEASON WELCOME

Welcome back everyone! Feels like we never left!

We've been very busy this offseason.....

Our high performance academy was back training from the end of June, meaning we've been working hard for over 3 months preparing for season 2024/25! If you hopped on the CMCC Pre-Season Tour bus, you would have made stops in Bayswater, St Kilda, Bundoora, Kilmore, Essendon and Adelaide! Lucky petrol prices haven't been too bad recently......

But in all seriousness, our squad has been bringing great intensity and intent to each session and paying attention to the little details that will allow our cricket to take care of itself come gameday!

In terms of our media for this season, I would like to welcome Tom 'Scooter' Scott to the team! He has taken over all our social platforms whilst I continue with the newsletter and all the very important behind the scenes secret business! So all the posts you see from this weeks teams moving forward will be by Tom. Scooter has had a lot of experience already, managing the Geelong Falcon's Footy Factory's (according to BT) social media channels so I am looking forward to seeing him bring some more content to your feeds this season!

Another media announcement, this year we will no longer be sending the newsletter directly to your inboxes (I know, I had a little cry too). As Michael Jackson said, This Is It! Instead, the newsletter will be exclusively on the website with links posted on Friday nights on our socials.

But with a loss we have a gain, see below for an exciting new segment to keep you engaged throughout the season......in case the cricket isn't enticing enough!

A final FYI, unfortunately the unofficial home of cricket. Watson Park, is being redeveloped so the 3s and 4s will be playing at Ross Gregory Oval in St Kilda for home games pre-Christmas. Home games post Christmas are still TBC. But don't worry, Watson will be back bigger and better than ever next season!

Looking forward to another fun and victorious year of cricket! Go Pies! Jack Di Stefano Head of Media & Communications

COACH'S ADDRESS

Our 2024/25 preseason provided players and coaches the best possible preparation for an exciting summer of cricket.

Our nine week training schedule covered skills, strength and conditioning, mindset development and matches.

Using the excellent training facilities at the CitiPower Centre, Top Line Cricket and La Trobe University we were able to have 17 specific skills sessions covering batting, bowling and fielding.

This preparation provided a great foundation for the back end of preseason where we were able to play 7 competitive fixtures which saw the skills and mindset we had worked hard on developing, transfer into positive performances.

Looking forward to the season ahead! David Alleyne

Senior Head Coach

Congratulations to the following players making their 1st XI Debut this week: Cap 167 - Arjun Nair

Cap 168 - Sacheen Paramesh

Cap 169 - Kobe Herft

WELCOME NEW PLAYERS

With a new season comes new players, so lets welcome some fresh Pies to the Nest!

First up we have our prized recruit Arjun Nair, coming to us from NSW he is a genuine all rounder with many years of professional experience. Sacheen Paramesh and Prajay Paramesh join us from Kingston-Hawthorn with Sacheen bolstering our fast bowling stocks and Prajay a batting all rounder. Kobe Herft is a top order batter who bowls a bit too and comes from an international stint and previously playing at Melbourne and Prahran in the higher grades. Charlie Simondson joins us from Fitzroy-Doncaster with his left arm doorknobs and some handy late innings hitting. We also welcome back Aidan Nicholls who realised he missed us too much last year and flew back to the Nest! And finally, Hayden Brown has come across from NSW to send down some rockets and Karan Jacob who is currently injured is an all rounder to bolster our ranks even further! We wish you all the best as you start your careers at the Well!

Presenting our U16 Dowling Team for 2024/25!

A huge congratulations to the following boys and their families on being selected for January's carnival and Physioworks Health Group for their ongoing support of our academy!

"We had over 70 players trial for the initial Dowling Shield Academy and we are very pleased with the squad we have picked for the carnival. Our final squad of 14 has great depth across all disciplines and it’s fantastic to see many of our local clubs with representation, as well as some siblings of current Magpies pathway players (Jakey Pietz and Ben O’Brien). We are looking forward to having them represent us across the practice matches as we prepare for January" - Matt Grose (Dowling Coach)

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Sherlock Wheelbarrows. That's right we are back for another year!

To kick things off this season, I sat down with our new social media wiz, a man who loves scooters and one of our young guns, it's Tom Scott!

1. I heard you spent your offseason playing up in the NT! How did you go and what was a unique experience you had?

Tom: It was a very valuable trip, one I enjoyed throughly!

Allowed me to train daily and enjoy the sunshine. Missed going to the Cats games every week though!

Yeh NT is definitely an awesome experience. I loved my time in Alice Springs but I imagine Darwin would've been even more tropical. Little birdy also told me you didn't do too bad up their either with the stick......looking forward to seeing a bucket of runs this year at the Well!

2. Making the trip up from Geelong very frequently, what's your favourite part of the drive and do you know your record trip time?

Tom: Radio on the way up, podcasts or music on the way home! If the trip is just over an hour I’m a happy man!

I like that combo. I'm very much an 1116 SEN kinda guy when I'm driving to home visits during the day. I get a lot of Dwayne's World (you call you get on, that's the midday madness promise). And that's pretty nice timing, get a solid pod or two in and maybe a little sing along for the last 10 minutes and you'd be pretty happy!

3. All my life I've been told to never trust a man with two first names. Why should we trust you?

Tom: I think it rolls off the tongue well. Often I’m referred to as my whole name, rather than just Tom. Don’t read too much into it if I’m being honest.

Maybe we should start calling you Scott Tom like Daniel Ricciardo does for George Russell in the F1 (that's Russell George for those at home). I bet you probably got called Scott by the sub teacher at school sometimes too. I used to get Stefano (rolls eyes).

4. For those who don't know, Tom has his own podcast called 'The Playing Agenda'! Tell us a bit about it and where people can listen. Tom: Had the poddy for a few years now. It’s evolved over time, I love hearing from athletes about their preparations, training and journeys so I thought I’d start a podcast to learn & chat to athletes myself. Listen wherever you get your podcasts :)

Sounds awesome, if you haven't had a listen go check it out! There's not much our man can't do.....lets wait and see what he'll cook for me though! But all this preparation and journey talk just makes me wonder what an incredible collaboration Griff McComb's O3 Facility could have been with the pod. A man can dream!

5. If I come over for dinner, what would you cook for me?

Tom: Butter chicken, could have it 7 nights a week. Wood fire Margherita pizza ordered & delivered honourable mention.

Butter chicken is a good shout. I actually made a pretty good butter chicken recently, straight from RecipeTinEats for those chefs out there, Nagi always delivers. Margherita is a bit boring but it is a classic so I hope you've got a good dough recipe....why do I feel like you're a store bought base kinda guy......

Thanks to Tom for playing! Who will be on Q&A Corner next week,? Well it's a man with a bit of celebrating to do on and off the field! Find out who it is in next weeks newsletter!

Welcome to The Swoop's newest revived segment, Tone's Trivia, brought to you this week by Chargrill Charlie's! In honour of club legend Anthony Grace, who sadly passed away just over two years ago, I thought who better to name the trivia segment after.

We did have Tone's Trivia a few years ago but this year you have even more reason to play along! Each newsletter, I will provide you with one CMCC trivia question related to our opponent for the weekend. To answer the question, follow the link below.

I will be keeping track of who answers the most questions correctly throughout the year and provide updates on the leaderboard! Each correct answer equals 1 point. And the best part is we have prizes!

A massive thankyou to our sponsors Physioworks Health Group & Chargrill Charlie's for supporting this segment for the season providing the following prizes to our trivia wizards!

First Prize: Physioworks Health Group Massage Voucher

Second Prize: Chargrill Charlie's Voucher

We are still on the search for a Third Prize so if any sponsors or those in the CMCC community would like to be a part of Tones Trivia, please get in touch!

Round 1 Tone's Trivia - In the 4th XI's 2016/17 victory vs Ringwood, who opened the bowling taking 4/33 off 30 overs including 16 maidens?
