Outstanding Season for our Junior Cricketers

The success of our Junior teams this season has been truly outstanding with all eligible teams – U16B, U14B, U12A and U12B, making it into the ECA’s semi-finals this Sunday the 9th of March. Our U12 Mixed Team is playing in the ECA 100 Final on Monday night – a new shorter-style competition trialled this year, which proved popular with our young players. Additionally, our two U10 teams finished first and second on the ladder, with many great performances from our emerging cricketers, including a number of Hat Tricks!

Congratulations to all players, coaches and parents. Each team can be proud of their success, regardless of results over the weekend, with CMCC Junior’s philosophy of giving each player an equal opportunity with bat and ball allowing for individual growth and enjoyment, while delivering great results for all the teams.

We encourage our Senior Magpies to follow us on Instagram - @cmccjuniors - over the weekend, where we’ll update results and individual achievements as they happen.

We wish our Seniors the best of luck over their finals appearances over the coming weeks!

Our sponsor, Community Bank Inner East is celebrating a huge milestone- $10million in sponsorship and grants to the local community. We are lucky enough to have received funding from them over the years. To celebrate, they are giving away $10,000. You can enter the competition here https://bit.ly/CICOMP25

Welcome to Jack's Q&A Corner brought to you by Ark Capital Funds. This week I sat down with a man who's head can't get any bigger after the amount of runs he's scored this year, a true private school boy who loves a bit of me me me time, that's right, it's Patrick Forrest!

1. I tried to find the Patrick Forest on Google Earth but I couldn't find one. Are you sure you own a forest?

Foz: Unfortunately my Forrest is spelt with two Rs making it stand out from the rest of the foliage around the globe.

That is a shame although I reckon if you had to buy a forest somewhere the family could probably afford it! I wonder what the origin of your name is with the double R, were they originally just one R and wanted to be different? Or perhaps you were a very relaxed family known 'for rest' and when they put them together it became Forrest! I guess we'll never know!

2. It's fair to say you have had a breakout year at the club, what's your secret to success?

Foz: Honestly just constantly reminding myself of why I play cricket and the fun it can be even when things aren’t going well just trying to take some positive out of the experience, it’s made easier to do when you get to play with your mates every weekend and the club has such a good environment.

As Shane Mays used to say, we love love and boy is there a lot of love around the club at the moment! Exciting times lie ahead!

3. You don't strike me as a gadget type operator as BT once said so do you have a favourite superhero and why?

Foz: I think if I couldn’t pick greenys bouncer, as the resident hero of the turf nets. it would have to be Dr manhattan - niche I know but he’s pretty hectic (look it up).

I am actually quite familiar with Watchmen so I know all about Dr Manhattan! Its definitely not for your everyday superhero fan but for those who like to go a bit deeper, Watchmen is for you! I know you didn't ask but I've always been a Spiderman guy, love the quick wit!

4. Being born in 2005 (making me feel old), what's something you wish you were alive to witness from before your time?

Foz: Probably would be the shot heard round the world in the 1951 pennant game between the Yankees and dodgers - just an all time commentary moment.

Talk about niche! Although I will have to correct you, back in 1951, New York had a team known as the Giants before they moved to San Francisco! And they were playing the Brooklyn Dodgers who later moved to Los Angeles! But from watching the footage of this, it looked like a pretty epic moment in sporting history! I think a transcendent Olympic moment like Cathy Freeman or Usain Bolt winning gold would be awesome to have seen! Or even the 4s 1 run win 3 weeks ago!

5. If I come over for dinner what are you cooking for me?

Foz: It’s hard to go past the humble bolognese - simply, trusty, reliable and if worst comes to worst, very easy to reheat in the microwave

This does not get me excited at all. Although, I'm not surprised by this, I wasn't expecting Foz, a private school boy who until he made runs this year wore a blue helmet, to have any culinary skills. This is the level of expertise in the kitchen I expect on year 8 camp with a trangia and spondonicles (if you know you know). This is a wake up call for everyone still relying on mum and dad to cook or make their lunch.......or drop off their subway order at 11am like Laxman! Be better!

Thankyou to Foz for playing! Who will be next on Q&A Corner, find out in the Finals Week 2 newsletter!

TD did NOT score his fastest 50 for the club against Kingston in 2022. Which means, Watto did score his last club 50, Fitzy got his first club ton and all 4 teams won!

Finals Week 1 Tone's Trivia - lets keep it simple, when was the last time a CMCC senior team won a final?
