The Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club (CMCC) is pleased to announce the election of Peter Warner as the Club's new President at last week's 24th CMCC Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In a changing of the guard at CMCC, Peter returns for his second stint as President taking over from Barry Russ, who served four years in the role from 2016/17.
Peter is no stranger to the Camberwell Magpies family, having been a key figure in the Club merger between the Camberwell and Collingwood Cricket Clubs in 1996 and spending five years at the helm as Club President between 1997/98 and 2001/02.
Speaking on his return to the presidency, Peter said it was an exciting time to return to the top job at the Camberwell Magpies.
"It is an exciting time to be involved with the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club, with a talented playing list, an expanded new committee and a new coach in Ian Stanger," Peter said.
"Having said that, we do enter the 2020/21 season with some noteworthy challenges, namely the COVID-19 pandemic which will push back the start of the Victorian Premier Cricket season and the refurbishment of both grandstands at the Camberwell Sports Ground, which will preclude the full use of the facilities at our home ground until December.
"It is our goal to not only win the First XI premiership, but also the Club Championship with all teams making finals within the next two seasons; a not impossible task given our recent Club Championship only four seasons ago.
"The Club will also have the services of Club Captain Andrew Fekete for the full season following his retirement from Victorian state squad duties.
"I would also like to acknowledge Barry Russ for his four years as President of the Club. Barry is stepping down from the presidency, but we are fortunate enough to retain his services on the Committee in 2020/21 as Head of Cricket Operations and Chairman of Selectors."
Also announced at last week's AGM was the introduction of five new faces to the Club Committee, including Mark Russell as Secretary, James O'Connell as Treasurer and Chris Bridle, David Francis and Ben Rowles as general committee members, while long-time club servant Mark Dwyer also returns to the Committee.
The Club conveys its sincere thanks to outgoing Committee members Mark Graven, Priscilla Duncan and Shane Mays for their significant contributions to the Club in recent years.
