Heating Up For Two Day Cricket

Camberwell prepare to take on Frankston Cricket Club this weekend, in the first of this season’s two day matches. Frankston finished fourth last year in the Club Championship, and have a bevy of youth coming through the club from the South East Country region, as well as experienced players littered throughout the XIs, which combine to make them a formidable opponent.

Their 1st XI has been within reach of the flag in the past two seasons, fighting out a thriller with Dandenong in the 2010/11 Grand Final, and losing to eventual winners Richmond in the Semi Final last year. The departures of Groves, Jewell and Clements from last year’s outfit may make them look less imposing on paper, but they have been able to call upon quality replacements. Two Day cricket has long been their strength, especially at home where their bowling attack makes regular incisions upon the opposition.

On the Pies’ front, injury has started to take its toll on the season, with James O’Connell missing this week, having forced his way up to the 2nd XI on Sunday. Jack McNamara is also unavailable with an injured finger. The form of Michael McClean and Kasun Suriaratchie has been rewarded, whilst Joe Doyle and Tom Vanderslik make their debuts in the 3rd XI.
