GIRLS CRICKET
Camberwell Magpies in conjunction with Wycliff Cricket Club has teams that participate in Stage 1 (entry level) and Stage 2 girls competition within the Eastern Girls and Women’s Cricket Association. The competition is suitable for girls aged between 9 and 15 and played amongst local teams within inner eastern Melbourne.
At Camberwell/Wycliff our objective is for girls to have fun playing cricket and build their appreciation for the game. The games are 20 overs a side and each girl gets to bowl and bat each week as well as have the opportunity to wicket keep during the season.
Games are played on Wednesday nights from 5:00-7:30pm with the home ground at Anderson Park.
Training sessions: Tuesday nights Highfield Park
Stage 1 (generally girls aged between 9-11)
-
7 a side with each girl batting for the same number of balls.
-
Batters can’t be out so girls get the opportunity to develop their batting skills.
-
Bowlers rotate, each bowling one over at a time and generally bowling 2-3 overs per innings
Stage 2 (generally girls aged between 12-15)
-
9 a side with each girl batting for the same number of balls.
-
Different to Stage 1 in that batters are dismissed when they are out.
-
Bowlers rotate, each bowling one over at a time and generally bowling 2-3 overs per innings.
In both formats the wicket is shortened to enable girls to bat and bowl more easily.
The girls are coached by females (young adults) who currently play the game.
We provide all equipment for the girls including bat, pads, gloves and helmet.
For those girls that show aptitude for higher standard cricket there is opportunity for nomination to try out for representative cricket.
Season commences 2nd week of October so if your girl is interested please register here: https://www.playhq.com/cricket-australia/register/f92ea6
